“Yo Maps| I made sure artists who insulted me never got their Boomplay royalties”
In a recent interview with Mejido Corner, Zambian multiple awards winning artist Yo Maps sparked controversy after opening up about recent conflicts within the Zambian music industry. The singer and producer made it to the public that during the social media rango with artists who some ended up insulting him, he made sure they never got their Boomplay royalties. The hit making artist revealed that he’s the only and first Zambian artist to have his music album Komando bought by Boomplay.
And for that, he was given a portal where he used to manage his songs for some other Zambian artists. Yo Maps said that he had over 70 Zambian artists who used to get their royalties through his portal, in other words he is the one who was incharge or issuing the payments to his fellow artist. However due to social media conflicts which ended up him being insulted by the same artists who in this case never had any idea that their Boomplay royalties were managed by him. Instead in return Yo Maps decided not to pay all the artists who insulted him.
This statement has stirred widespread debate among fans, social media users and fellow musicians. Some commending Yo Maps’s action as a form of self protection and teaching his fellow musicians to have respect for one another. Others condemning the action that withholding his fellow artist’s royalties raise ethical concerns and professionalism.
